A complete-game shutout from Brayden Childress pushed the Dubois County Bombers past the Owensboro RiverDawgs for a 3-0 victory.
The Bombers got things going out of the gate. A leadoff walk and then a single from Tucker Schank had an early rally started.
Two straight strikeouts seemed to be closing the doors on Dubois County’s momentum, but Will Aubel was able to score on a passed ball to take a 1-0 lead before Kevin Butler lined out to end the inning.
The RiverDawgs weren’t able to muster up much offense over the next few innings, but the Bombers struck again in the fifth and sixth.
Back-to-back walks to start the bottom of the fifth led to an RBI single from Simon Scherry to take a 2-0 lead. In the sixth, a fielding blunder by Owensboro led to another run from Dubois County, giving them a 3-0 lead heading into the seventh.
The RiverDawgs had solid pitching performances from Brayden Busch, Chase Harlan and Brice Stuteville, combining for 10 strikeouts and just seven hits as a trio, but it couldn’t outmatch Childress’s performance on the mound.
Childress went the full nine innings throwing 122 pitches while fully trusting his defense, allowing four hits, walking five and striking out four.
This dominance on the mound made the 3-0 lead more than enough run support to give the Bombers the win over Owensboro.
The RiverDawgs will look to bounce back when they hit the road to take on the Paducah Chiefs at 6:30 p.m. The last time these two teams faced off, Owensboro short-gamed the Chiefs with an 11-0 win.
