Despite the Madisonville Miners valiant comeback efforts, the Owensboro RiverDawgs offensive efforts were more than enough to come away with a 12-7 win.
The Miners tried to apply pressure into the top of the first when Justin Ramirez was able to pull off a steal of home to take a 1-0 lead.
However, the RiverDawgs quickly answered, with Dustin Jeffers kicking things off with a double in the bottom of the first.
Cole Gober gave Owensboro the lead during the next at-bat with a two-run homer to left. Hayden Hirschvogel was walked and advanced to second on a passed ball, with Cameron Nichols singling to give the RiverDawgs a 3-1 lead going into the second.
Heading into the bottom of the fourth, after a fly out to start the inning Kyle Hogwood was walked and a two-out single and a steal from Gober put runners in scoring position.
Ben Clark singled the following at-bat, driving in both to give Owensboro a 5-1 lead going into the fifth.
Both teams put up one run in the sixth, but the Miners brought themselves right back into a with an offensive outburst in the top of the seventh.
Four hits, a walk and a three-run home run from Brennan Hunt led to a five-run inning and gave Madisonville its first lead of the game at 7-6.
The RiverDawgs bounced back in the bottom of the seventh, with an infield single from Hirschvogel and a bunt from Nichols leading to a run after an error by the Miners.
Nichols was able to advance to third on the error and later scored on a sacrifice fly, regaining the lead for Owensboro at 8-7.
The RiverDawgs expanded on their lead by putting up four runs in the bottom of the eighth, before shutting down Madisonville 1-2-3 en route to a 12-7 victory.
Withe one series win under its belt, Owensboro will take on the Miners once again when they hit the road to take them on at Madisonville at 6:30 p.m. today.
