The Owensboro Bombers moved to 16-2 on the season after defeating Newburgh 6-2 thanks to solid hitting and a great pitching performance from Harrison Bowman.
Newburgh jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first, as Keaton Kern would earn a leadoff walk before advancing to second on an error with one out. Jonathan Lawson then lined one to right to make it a 1-0 game.
Owensboro nearly broke things open in the top of the second, as three straight singles had the bases loaded with one out.
Tanner Klee grounded out to first the following at-bat, but drove in a run to knot things up at 1-1. Ethan Gibson earned a two-out walk to reload the bases the following at-bat, before another walk allowed the Bombers to take a 2-1 lead.
Owensboro almost glided through the bottom half of the inning unscathed, but an error with two outs gave Newburgh some life and they took advantage. Back-to-back singles following the error led to a run, knotting things back up at 2-2 going into the third.
The Bombers were able to reclaim the lead at 3-2 in the top of the fourth, thanks to a pair of doubles in the inning from Cohl Proctor and Bowman. Once they got the lead, they never looked back.
Owensboro put up a run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh and the 6-2 lead was more than enough for Bowman who had been dealing all game.
Bowman allowed two runs on three hits, while striking out four and only walking one in 6 ⅓ innings. Braxton French came in to get the final two outs for the Bombers and seal the door, walking away with a 6-2 win.
Four players registered multiple hits for the Bombers, while Bowman led the way by driving in two runs while going 2-4 on the day.
Owensboro now has a day off before they host Rockport, taking them on at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 1.
