DC’s Newman, Roberts earn spots on West squad in annual all-star game

Daviess County’s Abby Newman and Millie Roberts will have at least one more game when for the Lady Panthers when their season eventually ends as both earned spots in the annual Kentucky East/West All-Star Game this summer.

Newman earned a spot on the senior team while Roberts will suit up for the junior squad as they take on the best of the east.

Newman is currently tied for the DC lead in hits with 46 as she’s hitting .511 this season with two home runs, two triples, 15 doubles, 21 RBIs and 30 runs. The shortstop leads the Lady Panthers in walks with 23 and is 7-for-7 on the basepaths while striking out just five times this season.

Roberts has been on a tear the last couple of weeks as she leads DC with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs this season. Roberts is hitting .375 with 34 runs, 10 doubles and a triple. She’s struck out just 10 times this season.

Daviess County hits the road today to take on Assumption before starting 9th District Tournament play on Monday at Owensboro Catholic.
