This is a story in a series on local high school athletes signing to continue their athletic and academic careers at the next level.

Apollo’s Kassidy Daugherty won’t have her basketball career end at Rupp Arena as the recent E-gal graduate is headed to Midway University in the fall.

Daugherty averaged 11.4 ppg and 3.0 rpg for Apollo this season as she helped the squad to their first 3rd Region Tournament title since 1997.

How does it feel to finally know where you’re going to attend next year and to make it official?

I’m ecstatic to sign with Midway and continue playing ball.

Why did you choose the school you did?

It was actually a coach at another school who told me that Midway was interested and as soon as I went on the visit, I knew. They had both majors I plan on studying, and Coach Minner and I formed a good relationship already.

What stood out about the program and the coaches?

The program has been under Coach Minner for only one year, but all the girls on the team love the way he coaches them. Coach Lucas, the assistant coach, has been there for four and he made it clear we could win a championship with all the assets the team has. They seem to be very headstrong and determined as coaches and that can only carry over to the players.

What are you going to study?

Business and nursing.

What are you going to miss about your team and school?

I’m going to miss so many different things with the team and the coaches. We went through a pretty tough year together, and we still came out on top. Apollo had become a home for me, and I pray Midway feels the same way.
