Apollo, Daviess County and Owensboro high school will be making the trip to Marshall County today to compete in the Class AAA, Region 1 Track & Field Meet.

Last year’s meet was canceled due to Covid-19 with the Daviess County Lady Panthers and Owensboro Red Devils will look to leave victorious once again, following their championship wins in 2019.

DC coach Mark Fortney said they’re excited for the chance to prove themselves again.

“After three months of training and racing our athletes are in a great place health-wise,” he said. “We have no injuries heading into regionals and that is a definite plus. The kids are feeling really good about the upcoming regional meet.”

Fortney said they have a lot of hope on the Lady Panther side today.

“We have several athletes that will be in the mix for being on the relay title contender team and, individually,” he said.  “For the girl’s side, our relay squads are very strong. Our 4×100, 4×400 and 4×800 relay teams all have the fastest seeds coming and have really good shots of being regional champs in those events. Our 4×200 squad is seeded and will also bring in the title hunt.”

Red Devil coach Drew Hall said his team has a lot to look forward to as well but he said the host Marshals could be the favorite.

“If we can get some help from other teams, we could sneak away with a victory,” he said. “We just have to come ready to compete and do our jobs.”

The meet is scheduled start at 10 a.m. at Marshall County High School.
