Owensboro’s Kirkman finishes 8th at state wrestling tourney

Owensboro’s Noah Kirkman was the top local finisher in the state wrestling tournament Saturday, claiming eighth place in the 120 pound division to become the first Red Devil to place at state since 1977.

Kirkman kicked off day two with wins in the third and fourth rounds of the consolation bracket. He then lost in the fifth round of consolation before he was defeated in the seventh-place match.

Daviess County’s Reese Haight (138) and Landen Boone (145) also advanced to the final day, but they were both eliminated after their first match of the day with losses in the third round of consolation.

FRIDAY’S RESULTS
Daviess County’s Reese Haight and Landen Boone, along with Owensboro’s Noah Kirkman, all advanced to the second and final day of the KHSAA State Wrestling Championships at Alltech Arena in Lexington.

Haight (138), Boone (145) and Kirkman (120) won their first match Friday but fell in the second round of the championship bracket. They each won their next match in the consolation bracket to advance.

Nine other locals competed at state but failed to advance.

Daviess County’s Conner Tolson (182) and Apollo’s Cameron Baker (160) both won in the first round, but they lost their next two matches.

Jordan Neal (195, OHS), Andres Quintana (113, OHS), Say Moe (285, DCHS) and Marco Reyes (182, AHS) all went 1-2, with a win in the first round of the consolation bracket.

Skyler Walker (170, DCHS), David Gerkin (132, AHS) and Blaze Cart (285, AHS) all went 0-2.
