The Lady Panthers picked up a convincing 9th District home win over Owensboro Friday night, racing out to a huge lead en route to a 54-35 victory.
Daviess County (8-11) relied on a balanced attack to dismantle Owensboro (5-14), with seven players contributing to the scoring effort. Head coach John Kirkpatrick was thrilled with the effort of his team in a game where the Lady Panthers’ depth was on full display.
“I was thrilled with the scoring from Druree (Glenn) tonight,” Kirkpatrick said. “Coming into the season we were worried about the depth of our bench, but the young girls have really stepped up as of late. When we see a girl on the floor getting fatigued, we aren’t afraid to throw someone in there. The freshman and sophomores are really stepping up to the plate.”

After Owensboro’s Lyric Lawrence scored the first bucket of the game, Daviess County was able to keep the Lady Devils off the board for the final 7:36 of the first quarter. The Lady Panthers played a stifling 2-3 zone, ratcheting up the full-court pressure on occasion to keep Owensboro off balance.
The strong defensive play allowed for a 17-0 run to close out the quarter and give DC a commanding lead they never relinquished. They pushed the advantage to 30-9 by halftime and largely kept it at the margin.
“I have to give full credit to my assistant coaches tonight,” Kirkpatrick said. “I leave the defensive coaching to them, and the fact that we were able to go back and forth from conservative to high-level pressure was fantastic. We were able to keep Owensboro off balance tonight, and that is all because of the hard work my assistants put in on a daily basis.”
Katie Mewes led the offensive effort for DC with 11 points, while Adylan Ayer added 10 and Glenn had nine.
While the Lady Devils overall had trouble getting shots to fall, 8th-grader A’Lyrica Hughes led all scorers with 20 points.
The Lady Devils will look to bounce back quickly tomorrow afternoon when as they travel to Meade County for a 2:30 pm tipoff. The Lady Panthers will be back in action at 7 p.m. Monday when they play host to Grayson County.
