Local bowling teams are set to participate in the 3rd Annual South Central Bank Holiday Showcase, a fundraising event hosted by the Kentucky Wesleyan College program to help bring top talent from several states to the city of Owensboro.
The three-day competition will begin Saturday at Bowlodrome with girls’ teams at 10 a.m. followed by the boys’ teams later in the afternoon. Sunday will feature girls’ and boys’ singles following the same timeframe.
Monday’s competition will be a doubles tournament — a new installation in this year’s showcase.
So far a total of 34 teams are signed up to compete, up nearly 10 from last year and roughly double the size of the field of the inaugural showcase.
For the individual competition, about 120 total bowlers from six states are registered. Nearly 20 doubles teams have also entered the showcase so far.
The top four boys’ singles and girls’ singles will receive scholarship money deposited into their United States Bowling Congress SMART account to use wherever they attend college. Awards are also given to the first- and second-place teams.
Teams have until Thursday to sign up. Individual walk-ins are welcome until the field is full.
Those interested in signing up can contact tournament manager Scott Thompson, who is the head bowling coach at Wesleyan, via email at [email protected].
