The Trinity softball and baseball teams each begin their quest for their first 12th District championships this week as their respective tournaments get underway. The softball tournament begins Tuesday at Grayson County, while baseball begins today at Trinity.

The Lady Raiders (13-14, 4-2 12th District) have never won a tournament game since joining the 12th District in 2006, but they’ll have a strong chance to end the drought against No. 3 Edmonson County (9-14, 1-5). Trinity won both meetings in the regular season en route to the No. 2 seed, while the Lady Cats only won a single district game.

The Lady Raiders had quite a turnaround after starting the year 0-10 with mostly lopsided scores. The bats suddenly got hot and Trinity went 13-4 the rest of the way, stringing together several impressive victories.

Trinity will play Edmonson County at approximately 7:15 p.m. in the second game of Tuesday’s 12 District doubleheader. The victor will face the winner of No. 1 Butler County and No. 4 Grayson County, with the championship set for 6 p.m. Wednesday.

For the Trinity baseball team, it was a tough regular season that had little offensive output more often than not. The Raiders (4-18, 0-6) finished as the No. 4 seed after failing to pick up a district win.

Trinity has never won the 12th District tournament, but they finished as runner-up each year from 2014-16 and again in 2018.

This year, as tournament hosts, they’ll play No. 1 seed Grayson County at 5:30 p.m. today. No. 2 Butler County and No. 3 Edmonson County will fight for the other championship berth, with the title game set for 6 p.m. Tuesday.
