The Owensboro Catholic girls dominated the competition Saturday for their fourth consecutive Class A Region 2 track and field title, while the boys’ team took second and were only a single point out of first place.
The Lady Aces had a strong performance in the team relays and scored 188 total points, well ahead of second-place Hancock County (77.50 points). The Aces (124) were also solid in the relays and were barely edged by champion Fort Knox (125).
The girls’ team took first in the 4×100 (51.04) and 4×800 (10:45.63), and they placed second in the 4×200 (1:53.61) and 4×400 (4:30.25).
The boys earned first in the 4×800 (8:34.59), second in the 4×100 (44.62) and 4×200 (1:34.23), and third in the 4×400 (3:46.47).
All top-two finishes, both in relays and individual events, earn automatic bids to the state championship. The next 10 best times/heights/marks from the state-at-large qualify for the state meet.
