Three local schools are sending a large number of athletes to the University of Kentucky on Saturday to compete in the Class 3A KHSAA State Track and Field Championships.
The Daviess County girls and the Owensboro boys took first place in their respective divisions at the region meet earlier this month, and both earned a handful of automatic qualifying spots. The Apollo boys’ team took fourth with the help of some top finishes by their relay teams.
Between automatic qualifiers and at-large bids in both running and field events, all three schools are sending a total of 45 athletes to compete across a variety of events.
Apollo also had three entries in unified events. They have the top qualifying results in the Shot Put and 4×100 Meter Relays, as well as the No. 3 distance in the long jump.
