The Apollo girls’ bowling team nearly swept the singles competition in the Region 1 Tournament Friday, with three bowlers finishing in the top four. One boy from Daviess County finished fourth to send a total of four local bowlers to the State Bowling Championship in singles play.

The Region 1 Tournament, held at Cardinal Lanes in Paducah, began Friday with singles competition. The top four individuals for both girls and boys advance to the state tournament next month.

For the girls, Emma Workman of Apollo took first place, while teammates Theresa Rickertsen and Molly Statts finished second and fourth, respectively. Laura Head earned ninth place.
