Eagles get important win; E-Gals victorious on road

The Apollo basketball teams both picked up wins Tuesday night, with the boys beating McLean County 68-59 at home and the girls picking up a 50-46 victory over Grayson County on the road.

BOYS
The Eagles (2-18) won for the first time since their season opener, coming from behind after an early deficit to take down the Cougars (6-10).

Malik Wilson scored 26 points to lead Apollo, who trailed 17-13 after one quarter. The Eagles rallied to take a 31-30 lead at the half, but the Cougars went back in front 45-43 heading into the final frame.

Apollo closed the game strong, outscoring McLean County 25-14 in the fourth to finally earn another win. Ryan Ash scored 12 and Dan St. Claire added 10 for the Eagles.

GIRLS
The E-Gals (11-10) withstood a late push by the Lady Cougars (10-10) to win on the road and break a three-game losing streak.

Apollo got 18 points from Lexi Shadowen and 11 from Kassidy Daugherty, and the two combined to hit five 3-pointers.

The Eagles jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the first period and maintained the gap for a 23-19 advantage at halftime. A 14-7 third quarter extended the lead, and they were able to hold on for a narrow win.
