“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

Girls’ basketball: Apollo, Daviess County, Owensboro Catholic

GIRLS
Owensboro Catholic 72, Pleasure Ridge Park 49
The Lady Aces (8-4) got an early lead and kept adding to it in a big win over the Lady Panthers (9-5) in the first day of the LaRosa’s Holiday Classic at Conner.

Hannah McKay led the way with 22 points and 8 rebounds, while Madelyn Lyon added 10 points and 8 boards. Mackenzie Keelin scored 14 points and had 4 rebounds.

Caroline Reid had 9 points and 6 assists, and Spencer Harvey finished with 5 points and 5 rebounds.

Others scoring for Catholic were Isabella Henning (8), Ally Maggard (2) and Rachelle Johnson (2).

The Lady Aces will play Highlands at 1:30 p.m. Friday in day two of the tournament.

Hopkins County Central 49, Daviess County 34
The Lady Panthers (0-11) fell to the Lady Storm (6-6) in the first round of the Lady Storm United Mine Workers of America Classic. No stats were available at the time of publication.

Daviess County plays Livingston Central at 2:45 p.m. Friday to continue the tournament.

Hopkinsville Lady Tigers 52, Apollo 37
Breckinridge County Lady Tigers 52, Apollo 45
The E-Gals (8-5) lost to both Hopkinsville (10-5) and Breckinridge County (8-3) in the first day of the FNB Holiday Bash at South Warren.

Apollo fell behind early against Hopkinsville and could never quite recover despite 14 points and three 3-pointers from Lexi Shadowen. Others scoring for the E-Gals were Zoe Floyd (7), Amber Dunn (7), Kassidy Daugherty (4), Addison Carter (3) and Brylee Rhodes (2).

In game two, the E-Gals used a strong first half to take a 27-18 lead at halftime. The Lady Tigers outscored Apollo 17-9 in each of the last two quarters to come from behind for the win.

Shadowen again hit three 3-pointers and led the team with 13 points. Floyd added 12 and Daugherty finished with 11. Other scorers were Dunn (5), Rhodes (2) and Carter (2). Floyd had 14 rebounds on the day.

Apollo plays Graves County at 5:30 p.m. Friday in day two of the tournament.

BOYS
Daviess County 77, Todd County Central 55
Dakota Walden posted a double-double to help lead the Panthers (4-6) past the Rebels (3-9) in the opening round of the South Central Bank-Halton Classic at Allen County-Scottsville.

Walden scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, while Chase Luckett had a team-high 20 points. Mason Payne added 13, and Camron Johnson scored 10.

Others scoring for Daviess County were Will Baron (6), Ryan Thomson (5), Gavan Ray (5), Hunter Gibson (5) and Logan Hillard (2).

The Panthers will continue play in the tournament Friday at 7:45 p.m.

Owensboro 71, Madisonville-North Hopkins 57
Darrion Wimsatt scored 34 points to power the Red Devils (7-4) to their third straight win with a victory over the Maroons (7-5) in the Meijer Holiday Classic at Bowling Green.

After a six-point halftime lead, Owensboro used a 23-12 third quarter to blow the game open. Wimsatt scored 13 points in the third, including two of his four 3-pointers.

Others scoring for the Devils were Gavin Wimsatt (9), Amari Wales (9), Isaac Humphrey (8), Jaiden Greathouse (6), Imonte Owsley (3) and Aireon Phillips (2).

Owensboro continues play Friday at 7:45 p.m. against Bowling Green.

Owensboro Catholic 68, Franklin-Simpson 64 (OT)
The Aces (8-2) had to play from behind for most of the game before edging past the Wildcats (4-7) in day one of the South Central Bank-Halton Classic at Allen County-Scottsville.

Catholic hit seven of eight free throws in overtime, when Zach Cecil scored five of his nine points on the night. John Parker finished with a game-high 21 points.

Others scoring of the Aces were Peyton Survant (8), Brian Griffith (7), Andrew Riney (7), Ty Vincent (6), Ji Webb (5) and Drew Hartz (5).

Catholic plays Greenwood at 6 p.m. Friday to continue the tournament.
