The Brescia University men’s and women’s basketball teams added another conference win by taking down Midway in a doubleheader on the road Saturday.

The men needed overtime to pull out an 88-87 win, while the women used a strong second half to pull away for a 65-53 victory.

MEN
Dillon Geralds sunk a 3-pointer to force overtime, and Darion Morrow knocked down a technical free throw with a .6 seconds to play to help the Bearcats (6-7, 3-1) regain a share of first place in the West Division of the River States Conference.

Brescia was awarded the technical free throw after a Midway player called a timeout when they had none remaining.

Tristen Murray hit six of the team’s 11 total made 3-pointers, and he finished with a team-high 35 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals.

Kayode Daboiku crossed the 1,000-point mark for his career, and he nearly earned a triple-double by finishing with 10 points, nine rebounds and nine assists.

Head coach Brian Skortz was happy with the response after Brescia trailed by as many as seven points with three minutes to play.

“I’m very proud on how we came back today and fought, getting the game to overtime and then taking the lead late in OT,” he said. “Tristen Murray was very good today, making plays both offensively and defensively. The two seniors Darion Morrow hit the big three and free throw in overtime and Dillon Geralds hitting the big shot to send it into overtime — it was great to see those seniors step up in big moments.”

Before his game-winning free throw, Morrow was fouled on a made 3-pointer, and his ensuing shot from the line put Brescia up 87-86 with six seconds to play. His two free throws at the end of overtime were his only attempts of the game.

Stat leaders: Tristen Murray (35 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists), Dillon Geralds (25 points, 7 rebounds), Kayode Daboiku (10 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists), Darion Morrow (7 points, 4 rebounds), Damontae Barnhill (7 points, 4 rebounds), DeMarion Newman (4 points, 4 rebounds)

WOMEN
The Lady Bearcats (3-10, 2-2) face a 33-31 halftime deficit, but a good defensive outing in the second half allowed them to come out on top. Brescia finished with seven steals and forced 16 turnovers.

Four players finished in double figures, and Aaliyah Rogers had a game-high 17 points. Cassidy Moss added 14 points, while Princess Holloway and Catherine Dunn added 11 each.

Moss and Rogers both pulled down eight rebounds and Holloway grabbed seven.

Other scorers for the Lady Bearcats were Jayde Robinson (6), Alicia Salazar (4) and Hailey Kendall (2).
