AHS, OHS win at home; DCHS falls on road

The Apollo and Owensboro volleyball teams came away with wins at home on senior night, while Daviess County lost on the road.

Apollo beats University Heights 3-0 (25-7, 25-20, 25-18)
The E-Gals (23-7) got another sweep in their final home game of the year. Head coach MaryAnne Howard said it was an emotional night honoring the seniors, but they were still able to play well and get a victory.

“University Heights is a great team,” she said. “They play great defense, so I thought it was a good chance for us to work on improving our passing and our offensive play. I think it was a good match for both teams preparing for postseason play.”

The E-Gals were led by Carlee Widmer (20 assists, 5 kills), Jenna McMillen (10 kills), Natalie Ewing (8 kills) and Taylor Blair (4 kills).

AHS plays in the Toyota of Hopkinsville Western Kentucky Smack Down with matches today and tomorrow. They’ll start with contests against Ballard Memorial, Christian County and Crittendon County.

“It will be good to get a lot of games in before district to make sure we’re clicking on all cylinders,” Howard said.

The E-Gals will play Owensboro at 5:30 p.m. Monday in the first round of the District 9 Tournament. Daviess County is the host of the tournament.

Owensboro beats Muhlenberg County 3-1 (25-19, 19-25, 26-24, 25-22)
The Lady Devils (5-26) broke a 12-game losing streak to come away with a win on senior night in the final game of the season.

Owensboro was led by Krystell Pappas (11 kills, 10 assists, 8 digs, 7 aces), Mykael Winstead (10 kills, 8 digs), Kennedy Thompson (11 digs, 10 assists, 3 kills), Jersie Rhineburger (18 digs, 3 kills), Audretta Tyler (6 digs) and Skylar Stalings (5 digs).

OHS is off until Monday, when they play Apollo at 5:30 p.m. in the first round of the District 9 Tournament. Daviess County is the host of the tournament.

Breckinridge County beats Daviess County 3-1 (15-25, 25-12, 25-20, 25-21)
The Lady Panthers (13-13) wrapped up their season on the road with a narrow loss. No stats were available. DCHS plays Monday at 7:30 p.m. against Owensboro Catholic in the first round of the District 9 Tournament. Daviess County is the host of the tournament.
