DC boys soccer splits games; XC teams in action

“Yesterday in Sports” brings you the highlights from sports in Owensboro and Daviess County.

Daviess County boys soccer won a game and tied another in the Purples Classic tournament in Bowling Green. The Daviess County cross country teams competed in the Brooks Memphis Twilight XC Classic.
The Owensboro cross country team competed in the Central Kentucky Run for the Gold, but results were not available.
The Owensboro Catholic cross country team competed in the Christian County Invitational in Hopkinsville, but results were not available.
Apollo boys soccer rescheduled a match with Fort Campbell for Oct. 4.

BOYS SOCCER
Daviess County 4, Mercer County 1; Daviess County 1, Lafayette 1
In game one against Mercer County, Daviess County (9-0-1, 3-0 District 9) overcame a 3-1 deficit for the win. Jacob Boling scored one in the first half off an assist from Brian Winkler. Hunter Clark struck first in the second half, then Boling added another goal with an assist from Tanner Andersen. The final score came from Declan Sandifer with an assist by Max Miller.

The lone goal for the Panthers in game two against Lafayette came midway through the second half on a score from Anderson, with an assist by Boling.

The Panthers play again at 7 p.m. Thursday at home against Owensboro (4-2-1, 1-2).

CROSS COUNTRY
Daviess County teams compete at Brooks Memphis Twilight XC Classic
The Daviess County girls finished fifth in a field of 43 teams. Scoring runners were Karlee Hoffman (19:12.32, 5th), Ainsley Taylor (20:29.29, 30th), Emily Ann Roberts (20:46.30, 40th), Emily Rempe (21:19.03, 59th) and Lauren Howe (21:26.97, 65th).

The Daviess County boys finished 13th in a field of 51 teams. Scoring runners included Brady Terry (16:54.32, 19th place), Alex Adams (16:58.78, 26th), Logan Gish (17:49.12), Justin Shelton (18:16.11, 115th) and Brock Taylor (18:27.13, 135th).
