Letter to the Editor

When you lose a loved one, it means so much to the family when others reach out in a time of sorrow and loss.

We, the daughters of Emmett Daugherty, wish to extend our gratitude to all those who reached out to us, whether it be calls, texts, cards, messaging, or visits. We are honored so many cared about our dad. Thank you for being a part of his tribute. We thank each of you for your support of love during our time of loss. Our dad’s service was far beyond what we could have hoped for.

Our desire for him to be honored and given tribute for his service with the U.S. Army and his service to our community as a firefighter would not have been possible if not for the VFW Post 696 and the Owensboro Fire Department/James Al Wathen. Thank you to those who participated in the gun salute ceremony. Thank you to the two soldiers who impeccably folded the flag and the honor of its presentation. Thank you to the four firemen who stood guard at Dad’s casket. Thank you for the very emotional fireman’s bell service. Thank you to each and every one who stood and saluted our dad honoring him at his burial.

We would also like to thank pastor Tony Boyken of Ridgewood Baptist Church for the sermon and words of hope and peace. We also wish to extend our appreciation and gratitude for all the work Rich Miller as well as the rest of the staff with Glenn Funeral Home did in order to make Dad’s tribute as special as it was. His celebration could not have been possible without each and every one of you. Rich, thank you for reaching out to those necessary with our request. You pulled it all together for us minimizing our load. Thank you for your sincere compassion and kindness.

With grateful hearts, we thank everyone who was a part of our dad Emmett Daugherty’s tribute. May God continue to bless and keep each of you safely in his arms.
