Ruth Settle Fort

September 7, 1921 - September 18, 2018

Ruth Settle Fort, 97, beloved wife of the late Oscar T. “O.T.” Fort (1994), went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky.

From her birth on September 7, 1921 in Owensboro to her home-going, she nourished people around her with love, faith, and music.  At the age of 14, she began playing for services at The Gospel Center Mission now known as the Boulware Center.  She also played for services at Breckenridge Street United Methodist Church at the age of 16.  In 1945, Ruth was employed at the Ken-Rad Tube and Lamp Company for 21 years.  She continued playing the piano and organ for 83 years.  She was organist for St. John United Methodist Church for 40 years as well as organist for Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory for 26 years.  She will always be remembered for her love for the Lord and positive outlook on life.

Ruth is survived by her two children, Stephen L. Fort and his wife Pam of Owensboro and Gary W. Fort and his wife Vicki of Brevard, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Laura Castleberry (William), Ryan Fort (Taylor), Chris Fort (Katie), and Kristen Sharp (Ryan); and six great-grandchildren, Aiden Castleberry, Jack Castleberry, Sam Castleberry, Caroline Fort, Everly Fort, and Teagan Fort.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, William Otha Settle.

A service celebrating her life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 29, 2018 at St. John United Methodist Church, 2160 Griffith Avenue, Owensboro.  Entombment will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.  The family will receive friends at St. John United Methodist Church on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until time of services.
