Ann was a hard worker, never afraid of the sweat and dirt that came with it. She mowed her one-acre yard well into her eighties and was proud of it. She raised a family of five, and remained a faithful member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella, a female auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. She also graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1948 and worked at General Electric and MPD until retiring in 1985.
Ann enjoyed spending time with family and was proud to be the grandmother of three sets of twins. Her quick and witty sense of humor was loved by all and her quirky sayings will never be forgotten. She would remind everyone to “come back and visit us,” though her husband, Owen, had been gone for years and always made sure to affectionately wave goodbye until cars were out of sight. Ann also loved hosting family reunions and many Bunco parties in the recreation room at her home. She never missed a University of Kentucky basketball game, and the family was intrigued with her comprehensive calendars which marked every anniversary of every momentous event in our families’ lives.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Owen Keelin; her siblings, George Kuegel Jr., Paul Kuegel, Albert Kuegel, Sue Yannacone, and Martin Kuegel; sons-in law, George Hagan and Pat Matthews; sister-in law, Alfreda Kuegel; brothers-in-law, John Payne, Quassim Al-Zubaidi and Nick Yannacone.
Survivors include her children Tim Keelin (Stephanie), Charlotte Hagan, John Keelin (Deborah), Sharon Matthews all of Owensboro and Eugene Keelin (Mary) of Burke, Virginia; siblings Paula Al-Zubaidi, Helen O’Bryan (Paul), David Kuegel (Suzi) all of Owensboro, Mary Payne of Rockport, Indiana, Theresa Rhoades (Martin) of Utica, Kentucky, Mike Kuegel (Dorothy) of Browns Mills, New Jersey, Bill Kuegel of Palm Bay, Florida; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a life-long friendship with Mrs. Betty Bumm of Rome, Kentucky.
Services will be at 11 am Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3 to 7 pm and from 9 to 10:30 am on Thursday at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory. Prayers will be said Wednesday at 6:30 pm at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank her in-home hospice caregivers and the staff of the Heartford House. A special thanks to her selfless neighbors Mr. Troy Faught and Mrs. Debbie Stiff who kept close contact with her, prepared many meals, and constantly went above and beyond.
The family asks that expressions of sympathy be made in the form of donations to Hospice of Western Kentucky, 3419 Wathens Crossing, Owensboro, KY 42301 or by calling 270-926-7565. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
