BREMEN – Larry Phillip Downing, 81, of Bremen, died Tuesday, April 22, 2025 at 12:19PM at his residence. Mr. Downing was born February 22, 1944 in Greenville. He was a member of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church and an Electrician for Logan Aluminum and TVA. He had two main passions: he was an avid sportsman and he loved hunting. He was a self-taught knife-maker, and made them for over 40 years, shipping them all over the world. He enjoyed being a part of the farm and in the woods where the family spent a lot of time in nature and in deer stands. He and Joy enjoyed “big game” hunting trips out west. He was a Kentucky Colonel. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn Downing; sisters, Della Hyland, Donna Whitmer, and Bonal Downing; and parents, Elmer and Beatrice Downing.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joy Stovall Downing; son, Chris (Katie) Downing of Gilbertsville; grandchildren, Tyler (Alexis) Simmons, Keaton Downing, Shelby Gaines, and Macey (Dustin) Smith; great-grandchildren, Lainey, Ivory, Rylie, Lily, and Colton; and several nieces and nephews.
