HORSE BRANCH – Janice Garland Geary of Horse Branch went to her heavenly home on April 22nd, 2025 surrounded by her family. She was born August 23rd, 1948 to the late Garland and Mary Aubrey Camp.
Janice retired from the Ohio County Detention Center where she made the best food. Upon arrest some would ask to be brought to Ohio County because of her food. Janice was known to sew patches on for the police departments as well as alter clothing for the state police. Janice was also known as the town beautician and barber back in the day. She could build anything she wanted built and demolish anything she wanted torn down. It’s been said that when you walked through her door, you always felt like you were home. Her home was open to all, especially on Sunday, when she always cooked a big Sunday dinner.
In addition to her parents, she is proceeded in death by her husband Willard Geary; brother Danny Camp; two sisters, Barbara McCormick and Betty Jameson; sister-in-law, Sharon Camp; and her beloved Robert Camp.
Janice is survived by one daughter DiAnna Ligon (Oz) of Hartford; son, Jason Geary (Marissa) of Horse Branch; the grandson that she raised, Adam Geary, also from Horse Branch; two granddaughters, Mary Simpson (Ronald) of Do Stop, Kentucky, and Cary Simpson (Byron) of Horse Branch; grandson, Mason Geary (Gracie) of Horse Branch; and one great-grandson, that is her name sake, Eli Garland. She is also survived by one brother, Douglas Camp of Horse Branch; sister Nancy Bailey (Charles) from Hartford; and her baby sister, Debbie Camp, also from Horse Branch. She has three honorary sons, Tyler (TINK) Ferrie of Hartford, Tony Hill of Horse Branch and Nick Woolen (Jennifer, Dara & Paislee) of Olaton. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews along with a huge extended family.
Janice never met a stranger and always found the good in everyone. The Smoky Mountains was her favorite place to be.
Per her request there will be no funeral service.
