
Gertrude Veronica Suddoth Greenwell, 96, of Owensboro, passed away on April 19, 2025 at her home in Owensboro, Ky.
Gertrude Veronica (Gertie) was born January 23, 1929 in Owensboro and was the daughter of the late Frank Joseph and Veronica Mary Kaelin Bittel. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald Suddoth of 35 years, her second husband, George Greenwell of 26 years, and a stepson, Howard Greenwell.
She was the loving mother of Lynn Bush of Owensboro and David (Linda) Suddoth of Ashburn, Virginia along with grandsons, Neal Alexander Bush of St. Charles, Missouri and Evan Thomas Bush of Elizabethtown, step-daughter, Ann Greenwell and step-grandson, Marius Howard.
She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Helen Redmond and Faye Bittel.
Gertie was a woman who couldn’t do enough for you if you were family or friend. She enlivened every encounter with a trade mark joy of life and a ready laugh. A doting mother, she attended all her children’s functions and saw that they stayed on the straight and narrow as well as have fun. She was bigger than life and it was our privilege to have her as our mother. Gertie enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, the time she lived in Boca Raton, Florida, and spending time with her two grandsons. Gertie attended St. Stephen Cathedral.
Funeral services for Gertie will be 2 PM Thursday, April 24 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Father Pat Bittel officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 PM until the time of the service Thursday.
