Barbara Jean Byrne Calhoun, 84, of Owensboro passed away Monday, April 21, 2025, at her home under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of W. Kentucky. The Dexter, Indiana native was born March 22, 1941, to the late Joseph Sweat and Jessie King Sweat. Barbara enjoyed traveling, music, painting, and working in her flower garden. Much of her enjoyment came from being with her family and watching movies together. Barbara was a devoted and long-standing member of Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, Barbara also was preceded in death by her first husband, John D. Byrne Jr.; grandson, Scott York; brother, Larry Sweat; sisters-in-law, Sr. Elaine Byrne and Diane Sweat; son-in-law, Rick York.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Tom Calhoun; her daughter, Carla York both of Owensboro; two grandsons, Jon York and Jeff York; great grandchildren, Trevor York, Scott Jefferson York, Ireland York, Michael York; great-great grandchildren, Nahla Daugherty and Julian House; brothers and sisters in-laws, Margie Rode (Jim), Mary Lou Payne (Darrell), J.L. Byrne (Joan, deceased), Eddie Byrne (Alo), and Tony Byrne (Betty); several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 am Thursday at Saints Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 pm with prayers at 6:30 pm and Thursday from 9:00 until 9:30 am at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
