John Len Horton

John Len Horton, 80, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, April 20, 2025 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born August 18, 1944 in Daviess County to the late Len McGee Horton and Wanda Wilson Horton. John graduated from Daviess County High School and Western Kentucky University, where he played basketball for both schools. He taught elementary school and at Daviess County High School. John also worked as a consultant, coordinator, and was the director of many educational programs. He worked for the State of Kentucky from 1967 to 2013 working his way to the Kentucky State Capital, where he retired as the Administrator of Vtech System. John won many awards and titles for his contributions to education. He went on to work as an accreditor for the Council of Higher Education. John was a private pilot receiving his license in 1973. He enjoyed many travel adventures and near-death experiences with his good friend, Eddie Wiles.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Lenny Horton.

He is survived by a son, Carson Chance Horton; grandson, Jacob Horton; siblings, Gary Horton (Pam), Toni Stone, Eddie Horton, Jenny Jernigan (Van), Sharon Zoglmann (Scott), and Jason Horton (Rebecca); stepmother, Linda Horton; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, April 28, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
