
Nancy Bassett Whitworth, 89, of Utica, formerly of Maceo, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the home of her daughter, Sheila Hemingway, while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born May 11, 1935 in Daviess County to the late Orville and Jacqueline Estes Bassett. Nancy attended Maceo Baptist Church and more recently she attended Glenville Baptist Church. In her younger years, she worked as a nurses’ assistant at the local hospital and later she taught preschool and kindergarten at St. Pius Daycare. She enjoyed UK basketball and was an Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She enjoyed needlework and sewing clothes for herself and her children when they were small. She loved dogs and cats. She was generous with her time volunteering to teach Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School. For many years, she visited nursing homes where she read the Bible to the residents. She was a sincere Christian who loved the Lord and was faithful to read her Bible, and pray for her family and others daily. Some of her most cherished spiritual gifts were hospitality, generosity, and kindness which she liberally shared with others.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Billy J. Whitworth on October 5, 2016. She is survived by her three daughters, Sheila Hemingway and husband Tom of Utica, Robin Selby and husband Kevin of Evansville, and Nancy Carol Wilson of Owensboro; eight grandchildren, Ben Wilson (Gina), Christopher Easler (Terri), Samantha Phillips (Rob), Colin Wilson (Michelle), Jennifer Hatcher (Zach), Rachel Foreman (Austin), Nick Selby (Erica), and Kalib Selby (Tabitha); 18 great grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Naomi Wilson, Lois Ann Clayton, and Sue Baggarly, all of Owensboro.
Funeral services will be Noon Thursday, April 17, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow in Cave Springs Methodist Cemetery in Breckinridge County. Visitation will be from 9 AM until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.
