William “Bill” C. Cook was born on October 3, 1946 in Owensboro, Ky to Charles E. Cook & Edna Reed Bell.
He joined the Army straight out of high school and retired after 20 years of service in Military Intelligence. From there, he went on to work in the financial sector in Virginia until his retirement at the young age of 56. At 57, he moved back to his hometown of Owensboro, Ky to be near his beloved sister, Barbara and his dear cousin, Beverly. He decided he needed to do something to keep himself busy and meet people so he made a hobby into a business and created “Just Stuff”. He established himself in several stores most recently Consumer Malls, Trader Bakers and T&T Vendor Malls. With several booths he truly did keep himself busy. (A business man at heart). And more importantly it connected him to his community. He gained so many friends on this journey who became near and dear to him.
What really filled Bill’s heart though was his love of his family. Both children live in Massachusetts so he made the 2-day trek up there every year. He absolutely adored watching his great-grandchildren, Myles & Logan, grow and thrive. He enjoyed spending time visiting stores with his kids and grandkids and showing them all the ins and outs of his business while searching for treasures, plus he could write off part of the trip. 😈 He was the go-to guy for all things money and business related. He enjoyed imparting his wisdom to children and grandchildren alike. The pride he had in all of them was palpable and always shared stories of them with all his friends in Owensboro.
On Saturdays, Bill enjoyed chatting by phone (or text) with his niece, Jenny. They served as a source of love and support for each other.
Bill leaves behind his daughter Amy-Jean Leblanc and her husband John of Lunenburg, MA; son, Louis C. “Charlie” Cook of Boxborough, MA; five grandchildren, Johnny Leblanc and his wife, Kaitlyne, Kurt Leblanc and his partner Alex, Pepper Cook and her partner Jodi, Trinity Giles and Cameron Cook; cousins, Mary Dean & Tim Miller and Dale & Debbie Sanders who went out of their way to make sure Bill knew he was loved and cared for.
Predeceased by his ex-wife, Ruby Duhamel Cook, with whom he remained cherished friends, his sister, Barbara Ann Whitt and his best friend/cousin Beverly Emmick.
Visitation is from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory with military honors at 3:00 p.m.
Bill was a generous donor to the CureGRIN foundation on behalf of his great grandson, Myles, who was diagnosed with a GRIN1 disorder when he was 3 months old. And he educated many of the people he met about GRIN1 and always boasted about Myles and the amazing parents he has. Therefore, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the CureGRIN Foundation https://curegrinfoundation.salsalabs.org/countmein2024/p/myles/index.html in honor of Myles.
