Joan (Powers) Cheek

Joan Cheek, 84, of Reynolds Station, passed on to her heavenly home on April 3, 2025. She was born on September 12, 1940 to the late Tommy and Eloise Bates Powers. Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Joan was a member of Zion Baptist Church and was retired from South Hancock Elementary after 28 years where she fell in love with many students which she talked about all the time. She enjoyed gardening, travel and most of all, spending time with her family. Her pride and joy were her three grandchildren. Joan was preceded in death by her sister, Shelia Adkins, brother-in-law, Kenzel Adkins, father-in-law, Preston Cheek and mother-in-law, Opal Cheek.

Joan is survived by her husband of 68 years, Durward Cheek; daughter, Marsha (Scott) Ayer; son, Delwin (Teresa) Cheek; grandchildren, Jenna (Jeff) Peercy, Logan (Holly Ann) Cheek and Kolten (Kenzie) Cheek; sister, Linda Anderson; brothers, Jerry “Bud” (Shirley) Powers and Ricky (Cheryl) Powers along with several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Noon on April 7, 2025 at Zion Baptist Church with burial following in Pellville Cemetery. Joan’s family will be greeting friends on Sunday from 3 pm until 6 pm at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Hawesville Chapel and on Monday from 11 am until service time at Zion Baptist Church.
