
Stella Louise Higdon, 89, of Knottsville, passed away Thursday, March 27, surrounded by family and under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born in Thruston to the late Thomas “Hugh” and Catherine B. Mattingly Millay.
Mrs. Higdon retired from Mercy Hospital after more than 25 years of service. She also worked in the infirmary at Passionist Nuns of St. Joseph Monastery. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church in Knottsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph “Jack” Higdon; a son-in-law, Mike Sallee; sisters, Delephine Roby, Betty Payne, Rosie Meserve and Marguerite Lanham; brothers, John W. Millay and Jude “Buck” Millay.
Stella is survived by daughters, Marlene Luellen of Whitesville, Cindy Sallee of Calhoun and Stacy Gibbs and her husband Allen of Owensboro; grandchildren, Brandon Higdon, Vanessa Yates and husband Nathan, Jesse Payne and wife Megan, and Tyler Vernon; great-grandchildren, Bailey, Breanna, Jansen, Katie, Raelei and Phoenix; sisters, Clara Brown and Agnes Harley; brothers, Claudie, Hubert, Mikie and Tom Millay; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 2 at St. William Catholic Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
