Robert Lyle Gaddey, 82, of Owensboro passed away peacefully at his home on March 5, 2025. He was born on January 8, 1943, in Vincennes, Indiana to the late Floyd and Mary Gaddey. Robert graduated from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois where he discovered his passion for umpiring. He was honored to be a part of the Conference USA, officiating for both high school and college sports, over the span of 50 years.
Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Michael (Cassie) Gaddey of Owensboro, Julie Makowski (Tony Grode) of Surprise, AZ, and Robert (Tami) Gaddey of Evansville; siblings, Judy (Phillip) Lathrop of Guilford, IN, and David (Carol) Gaddey of Tuscola, IL; grandchildren, Nicholas (Zoe) Gaddey, Tyler (Hayley) Gaddey, Clayton (Ally) Makoski, and Troy (Gracea) Makowski; great grandson, Oliver Gaddey; as well as many other loving family and friends.
