At the age of 77, Larain Morgan Ashby, of Owensboro, KY, passed away peacefully, on March 5, 2025, with her family by her side.
Born April 24, 1947, in Daviess County, KY, she was the daughter of Vincent Morgan and Lucy Mae Westerfield Morgan.
She spent a lifetime painting – specifically using oil, pastel, alcohol ink, watercolor, and pencil — and graduated from college, at the age of 60, with a major in business. Larain enjoyed belly dancing and teaching yoga and martial arts at Owensboro Community and Technical College and Owensboro Health Park.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Jim, Ashby. She is also survived by her daughters Jila Ashby and Venus Cornette, as well as Venus’s husband Philip Cornette Ill and their children Morgan Nicole Cornette, Wesley Don Cornette, Philip Cornette IV and his wife Dana Radwan. She is also survived by her brother Charles “Red” Morgan and his wife Mary Morgan.
Services will be held at noon on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery.
Larain has requested that nothing be sent to the funeral home and instead expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
