
Delmar Lee Barnett, affectionately known as Buckeye, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, at the age of 72 under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born on March 3, 1952, Delmar was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jo Barnett, and their children: Bradford Barnett (Jennifer), Rhonda Shelton (Dan), and Ashley Valencia (Miguel). Delmar was the proud Papaw to Dallas (Gwen), Emily, Ally, Rae, Christian, Caleb, Cole, Jr., Charlie, Jasper, Bristol, Javi, and Greyson. He was also a cherished great-grandpa to Jayden, Jaxon, Myles, and Mya. Additionally, Delmar leaves behind siblings Wilma, Sharon, Connie, and Frankie, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Delmar had a passion for car racing, fishing, bingo, and U.S. politics. He was a retired mechanic who took great pride in his work and found immense joy in his family’s accomplishments. Known for his playful sense of humor and occasional grumpiness, Delmar was a man of faith who believed in equality and love under God.
Preceded in death by his mother Garnetta, father Frank, adored stepfather Tater, and sisters Doris, Joyce, Shirley, Pam, and Joanne; and beloved dog, Rhett. Delmar leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Delmar’s last wish was for his loved ones to celebrate his life rather than mourn his passing. In honor of his wishes, a celebration of life will be held at James H. Davis Funeral Home on Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 10 am to 2 pm, with services beginning at 2 pm. Friends and family are invited to bring their favorite memories to share as they come together to honor Delmar’s life and legacy.
Delmar’s love for his family and his unwavering faith will continue to inspire those who knew him. May his memory be a blessing to all.
