Saundra Elizabeth Webb

Saundra Elizabeth Webb (nee Thurman), of Owensboro, Kentucky, passed from this world peacefully on Tuesday, February 25, 2025. She was born on March 19, 1941, in Owensboro, Kentucky, to the late Earl Buford and Thelma Elizabeth (nee Newcom) Thurman.

Left to cherish her memory are her brother, Rick (Jennifer) Thurman; devoted children and their spouses: Sonya (David) Beattie and Rob (Anne) Webb; seven grandchildren who lovingly called her Grandmother: Lucas (Julie) Beattie, Erin (Taylor) Ruby, Devon Beattie, Andrew, Allison and Lauren Webb; and Susannah (Fabian) Azofeifa; and six great-grandchildren: Evelyn, Wes, Charlotte, Reid, Sophie, and Sadie.

She was fortunate to enjoy over thirty-eight years with her loving husband, Bobby, before his death in 1999. They were married April 19, 1961. After his death, she strived to help her grandchildren remember him, by annually celebrating his birthday, and marking each Christmas with an ornament honoring their Granddad. Additionally, Saundra was predeceased by two siblings: Barbara Butler and Dennis Thurman. She spent her married life as a devoted wife and mother. When grandchildren began arriving, she showered them with love, always going overboard at Christmas. All the grands remember the Christmas she got them in a circle and told them their present for 2008 was a trip to Disney with the entire family. It was one of our family’s fondest memories. A devout Christian, Saundra was a member of Walnut Memorial Baptist Church (formerly Walnut Street Baptist), and actively participated in her women’s Sunday School class.

For many years, she enjoyed activities with her close circle of friends: Joyce Glass, Anita Morris, Shirley Hazelwood, and Sue Johnston. Saundra was artistically gifted, often making homemade gifts for friends and family. After a debilitating stroke in 2009, her tenacious spirit allowed her to return to independent living for over thirteen years.

The family wishes to express much gratitude for the loving care of Cedarhurst, Wellington Parc, and Hospice of Western Kentucky.

We will welcome friends and family at James H. Davis Funeral Home on Monday, March 3, 2025, from 10am-noon. A celebration honoring Saundra’s life will begin at noon, with burial at Elmwood Cemetery following.

Please consider a donation in Saundra’s memory to St. Jude, World Vision, or Walnut Memorial Baptist Church.

We close this remembrance with the words of Billy Graham, one of Saundra’s favorite Christian leaders: “Someday you will read or hear that Saundra Webb is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God.”
