Garry M. Turley 81, of Sacramento, Kentucky passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. Garry Marshall Turley was born October 25, 1943 in Sacramento, Kentucky to the late Samuel Graydon and Kathleen Howard Turley and was married to the former Shirley Sue Whitmer on May 19, 1962. Garry’s life was one marked by dedication to his family, a passion for the outdoors, and a steadfast commitment to his community.
Garry’s working years were spent as a dedicated miner at the River Queen Mines of the Peabody Coal Company, from which he retired after many years of hard work and commitment. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and grit, traits that served him well both underground and above.
An avid outdoorsman, Garry found solace and joy in nature. He was often found with a fishing rod in hand or preparing for the next hunting season. His love for the University of Kentucky Basketball was well known among friends and family, and game days were always a special occasion in his home.
A man of faith, Garry was a member of the Powers Chapel General Baptist Church in Bremen. He lived his faith through acts of kindness and by setting an example of unwavering support for those around him.
Garry’s life was a tapestry of the roles he cherished most—husband, father, grandfather, fiancée, brother, and friend. Each relationship was nurtured with care, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Garry was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Shirley Turley, who died August 2, 2003; a son, Randy Turley; a grandson, Marc Turley; and a brother, Samuel Louis Turley.
Garry is survived by a son, Steve Turley (Amanda) of Bremen; a grandson, Ben Turley (Julia Petrusan) of Barboursville, West Virginia; his fiancée, Linda Edwards of Bremen; and two brothers, Joe Turley (Sherri) and Ricky Turley both of Sacramento.
