Charles "Charlie" Brinning Kirby

Charles “Charlie” Brinning Kirby, 87, of Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Signature Healthcare at Hillcrest. He was born January 30, 1938 in Daviess County to the late William Hobert Kirby and Daisey Belle Taylor Kirby. Charlie retired from Masonry Contracting after 46 years. Charlie was a hard worker and a good provider. He was a member of Amvets and was of the Baptist faith. Charlie was a NASCAR fan and a very big UK and Packers fan. His favorite NASCAR drivers were Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. He spent many family weekends at the lake fishing and boating. He also liked to hunt and enjoyed playing golf with his brothers and brothers-in-law. Charlie loved going to the horse races and gambling and playing cards. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids and watching videos and seeing photos of all of them. They brought big smiles to his face.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Rita Jackson, JoAnn Bratcher, and Wanda Kirby; and brothers, William, Eugene, Herman, Harry, Larry, and Robert Kirby.

He is survived by a son, Charles Keith Kirby (Stephanie) of Whitesville; two daughters, Rebecca Lynn Hatcher (Jeff) of Utica and Kimberly Delane Blair (Buddy) of Philpot; eight grandchildren, Jeremy McDaniel (Anna), Angie Bardin (Jon), Joshua Hatcher (Haley), Matthew Kirby, Jennifer Burden (Dustin), Britney O’Bryan (Sean), Ryan Kirby (Cassie), and Hannah Ward (Dylan); 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Molly Maglinger; and several nieces and nephews.

Private burial will be held at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank Signature Healthcare at Hillcrest staff for their wonderful care of Charlie.
