
Frances Jean Mattingly Johnson, 86, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born April 19th, 1938, in Owensboro to the late Nick and Alice Kemper Mattingly.
She spent many years working at General Electric before working at the Owensboro Girl Scout office in her later years. She was a member of the Breckenridge St. United Methodist Church and she enjoyed teaching and volunteering alongside Willie Gene with the youth of the congregation. She especially enjoyed youth retreats to Camp Loucon. She loved working in her community and socializing with her family and friends.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Gene Johnson; son, Steven Wayne Johnson; and a brother, Donald Edward Mattingly.
She is survived by her daughter, Gretchen (Brad) Gilkey, of Bowling Green; one sister, Mary Jane (Donald) Brey, of Owensboro; two grandsons, Nick (Lindsay) Gilkey and Josh Gilkey, both of Louisville; five great-grandchildren, Bryant, Andi, Parker, Ivy, and Finn Gilkey; along with several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
