As of February 3, 2025 the world is just a bit less brighter due to the loss of our sun, Donnie Martin Stroud, born September 1, 1941. At 83, Donnie joined his beloved wife, Martha Glenn Davis; his parents, Eugene and Gertrude Tichenor Stroud and James M. and Mary Castleberry Davis – rejoicing with his King, Christ in Heaven at 2:20 a.m. in Owensboro. He was surrounded by his loving family until his peaceful surrender his temporary body for his Heavenly one without any pain and suffering with one of utter joy and peace.
Left behind to one day rejoin him in Peace is his devoted daughter, Aprilea Stroud of Owensboro; son, Glenn Martin (Michele) Stroud of Lexington; two cherished grandchildren, Nathaniel Glenn and Jessica Louise Stroud, both of Lexington; two loved brothers Joe Stroud (Mackie) and Jerry Stroud (Brenda), both of Owensboro, two sisters, Patricia “Pat” Breeding of Stuart, Florida and Betty Ellis of Owensboro; his granddog, Onyx Lea; as well as, many beloved nieces and nephews.
Donnie and Martha were united at Buena Vista Baptist Church, Owensboro, on October 12, 1963 and shared many earthly rewards together for 52½ years after she FINALLY accepted a date from him because he had just recently purchased a new convertible. DDL and Donnie shared a rich and rewarding life together after he returned home from Western Kentucky University because he could not bear to live without his love, nor did he want her dating others due to their distance.
Don played football at Daviess County high school (bragging about being from the first graduating class of the new school building), taught Pop Warner Football, and was a referee for Owensboro Catholic Elementary Schools.
Donnie and Martha both graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College, being avid fans and supporters of the Drama Department, Boys Basketball, Women’s Volleyball and especially the Wesleyan Women’s Basketball programs. He was involved in the All-American Club, traveled faithfully with the Panther Express, feed meals to athletes when school was not in session and had front row floor tickets from Graduate School until his death. His last sentence was of loving support about KWC’s Girl’s Basketball team to their coach as Nicole visited him just a couple of hours before his death. He was ever refereeing from the side lines of the games, sharing his experience with the referees, just ask any of them!
Donnie was active in a National Accounting & Finance Group through his job as Finance Director for over twenty years at Owensboro Municipal Utilities. Thanks to the annual meetings, he was able to travel to many of our continual states.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Entombment will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the wonderful, supportive staff, nurse, PA and receptionist from the ICU of Owensboro Health during the last few hours of their father’s passing and the various caregivers from Home Instead as well.
