
Mr. James I. “Jim” Shutt, age 94, of Murray, Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 31, 2025, at the Murray
Calloway County Hospital.
Mr. Shutt was born on September 21, 1930, in Island, Kentucky to the late James C. “Cricket” Shutt and Ura
(Eaton) Shutt. Mr. Shutt was a 1952 graduate of Western Kentucky University. He retired as the district manager for
Southern States Cooperative after being employed there for 39 years. He was a Navy Veteran having served during the
Korean War. Mr. Shutt was a member of the First Baptist Church in Murray. He previously was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Madisonville, Kentucky before moving to Murray where he served as a deacon, Sunday School
Director, and many other various roles. Mr. Shutt had a love for the outdoors, especially spending time on his farm
tending to his cattle, and gardening. He was a 50 year member of the F.&A.M. Masonic Lodge #743 in Island, Kentucky
and was a member of the Kiwanis Club in Madisonville, Kentucky.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Kathryn Thomas.
Survivors include his wife, Nancye (Bush) Shutt of Murray, Kentucky; they were married on January 21, 1961;
one daughter, Sherry Darnall and husband Greg of Murray, Kentucky; two sons, James S. Shutt and wife Sally of Wade,
North Carolina and Kelly Shutt and wife Beth of Natchez, Mississippi; five grandchildren, Casey (Shutt) Hoblet and
husband Justin, Meredith Beery and husband Brett, Amos Darnall, Jacob Shutt, and Wyatt Shutt; three great
grandchildren, James Baylor Hoblet, Jack Weston Hoblet, and Mackenzie Berry; two nieces, Joan White and husband
Steve of Masonville, Kentucky and Julie Clark and husband Mike of Philpot, Kentucky; as well as one nephew, James
Thomas and wife Cece of Hartford, Kentucky.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, February 7, 2025, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home &
Cremation Services with Bro. Keith Inman and Bro. Boyd Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00
p.m., Friday, February 7, 2025, at the J.H. Churchill Funeral Home & Cremation Services. A graveside service will be
held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 8, 2025, at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville, Kentucky with Bro.
Rodney Vincent and Bro. Jim McMurtrie officiating.
