Richard Lewis Simmons,
Aka “Dicky-Doo” or “Dick”, 71, of Indianapolis left this
earth Saturday, January 18, 2025 at Owensboro Health
Regional Hospital. Dick was born January 18, 1954, in
Indianapolis to the late Noah L. and Anna Marie Simmons.
Dick didn’t know a stranger and was the life of the party.
If you had the pleasure of knowing Dick, you knew you
were in good company and in for a good time. Dick was
known for his late-night wisdom and his famous “Ho
baby Ho!” Dick has a lifelong passion for helping others
and dedicated his life in the medical field. From the first
Wishard Hospital Paramedic class of 1974, to working the
cardiac cath-lab at Methodist Hospital, to working the
road as a medical sales representative for his good friend
Chuck Robinson, to an amazing career with Boston
Scientific in cardiac care devices with his good friend
Bob Wleklinski. Dick didn’t do it for the glory or the money, he did
it because he cared about every patient.
Dick loved all things sports. His love for his Chicago
Bears, Indiana Pacers, Butler Bulldogs, and his beloved
Hoosiers were unmatched. He was also a long-time
Indianapolis 500 patron, attending well over fifty Indy
500 races. If you attended a race with Dick, you knew
that “Back Home Again, in Indiana: was always a special
moment that would end with happy tears.
Dick also loved his family more than most would be
able to understand. He enjoyed spending time with his
granddaughter, Vera, fishing with his eldest son, Zach,
and golfing with his youngest son, Alex. Dick also loved
the dance of life with his beloved wife of 45 years, Reida.
Dick and Reida’s love for each other was clear and
unmatched, as they traveled the country together, and
never left a euchre table without a win.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Reida Simmons;
sons, Zachary Simmons and Alex (Valerie) Simmons;
granddaughter, Vera Simmons; and his brother from
another mother for over forty years, Randy (Lisa)
Sorgius; and the hundreds of people who were apart of
Dick’s life.
The funeral services will be held at Shirley Brothers
