
James Thomas “Tommy” McGehee, 92, of Evansville, Indiana, died on Friday, January 17, 2025 at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. He was born on September 28, 1932 to the late Jimmie Roach McGehee and Ora Marie Murphy McGehee. He was reared under the loving guidance of his grandfather, the Rev. Ada McGehee and Missie Johnson McGehee at 1840 W. 5th St in Owensboro, KY. Tommy was a 1950 Owensboro Vocational High School graduate. He began his working career as a mere youngster at Wetzel’s Supermarket where he worked for most of his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Joann Bristow McGehee (mother of Michael Wayne McGehee whose wife is Karin) in 1953; second wife, Marvadene Burdette McGehee (mother of Vickie McGehee Crawford married to Rick and James Gregory McGehee married to Pam) in 2018. His three children will always remember him as a champion of fairness, integrity, and a strong work ethic. Others recall his quiet humor and gentle compassion. He had a genuine interest in people, food, local history, photographs, gospel music, cars, lawn mowers and ice cream.
He is survived by his three children, Michael (Karin), Vickie (Rick), and Greg (Pam); four loving grandchildren, Michael T. McGehee, Steven G. McGehee, Matthew R. Crawford of Guam and Samantha M. McGehee; and four great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is from noon to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
