
Joseph S. Bowlds, 92, of Owensboro Kentucky, passed away Friday, January 10, 2025, at Hamilton Point assisted living facility in Newburgh, Indiana.
Born September 23, 1932, He was the son of the late Raymond I. and Benitta (Nettie Sweeney) Bowlds.
Joseph graduated from Saint Francis High School in Owensboro in 1951. He served in the Navy during the Korean War, from September 1951 to September 1953. Over the course of his career. Joseph (Joe) worked as parts manager in various automotive facilities including Van Slyke Volkswagen, Owensboro Lincoln Mercury, and NAPA auto parts. He completed his career driving for Purolator Courier Service in Owensboro.
Joseph was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved traveling and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed playing cards, watching UK Basketball and Senior Bowling. Joe loved his Catholic faith and was a long-time member of Immaculate Parish in Owensboro and later of Saint John the Evangelist of Evansville Indiana.
He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (Clark) Bowlds and sister Cecilia Bowlds of Owensboro. Survivors include his three children, Kathy Smith (Bob) of Newburgh Indiana, Patty Nixon (Greg) of Newburgh Indiana, and Judy Townsend (Jim) of Charlotte North Carolina.
Grandchildren Jason Smith (Amanda), Jenna Donovan (Kevin), Anna Michelle Smith, Hannah Small (Josh), Rachel Cloutier (Chase), Ryan Fruit, Katelyn Jones (Ethan), Matthew Townsend, Peter Townsend and John Townsend and 13 great grandchildren.
Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Immaculate Catholic Church, with Father John Vaughan officiating. Burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visitation at Immaculate Catholic Church on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
