“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Our sweet mom, Barbara J. (Collins) Murphy, born August 15, 1939, went home to be with her Lord and Savior January 10, 2025. While we are sad at the loss, she lived a life that touched many people and walked in faith like no one we have ever known. Even through six years of Alzheimer’s, she never lost her sweet spirit and touched the workers and residents of Homeplace of Henderson. The family is grateful for the love and care the staff at Homeplace provided.

Barbara was an encourager and would literally give the shirt off her back – ask those she took shopping in her closet! She instilled hope in the Lord, His goodness, and His promises. She took time for, prayed with, cried with, and comforted many. Her love was unconditional. She, along with her beloved husband, Mort, pastored The Way Station Christian Fellowship. Her greatest joy was to see her family and others come to know the Lord and walk in Him. She inspired many to step out in the gifts the Lord gave them, and if you faltered, one look at her nodding, beaming face instilled the strength to go on. She loved to worship the Lord in song with her guitar and keyboard. The Lord blessed her with many original songs, some of which will be sung at her Celebration of Life.

She will be missed, but we know she is no longer suffering and we will see her again!

Barbara is reunited in heaven with our loving dad and her beloved husband of 59 years, Mort Murphy; parents, Hugh T. and Virginia A. (Millay) Collins; and brother, Charles F. Collins.

She awaits the arrival of her children: Stephanie Murphy, Diane (Allen [Dinky]) Priar, Randy (April) Murphy, Paula (Dean) Roberts, and Phillip (Melinda) Murphy, her grandchildren: Brad (Amber) Docimo, David (Kim) Docimo, Jahna (Drew) Fulkerson, Chris (Laura) Murphy, Chad (Whitney) Priar, Bethanie Roberts, Ashley (John) Gleason, Jacob (Shelby) Roberts, and Dr. Melissa Murphy (Chase Hofmann); and her great grandchildren: Rebekah, Alex, Hannah, Caleb, Tyler, Lucas, Brayden, Collin, Addison, Lincoln, Ellie, Hattie, Vivian, and Ava; her siblings: Mary Ann (Gilbert) Sims and David (Sandra) Collins, as well as all of you at that great heavenly reunion!

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at Living Hope Community Church, 1709 Alexander Avenue, Owensboro. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory and from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church.

Knowing her heart, in lieu of flowers, Barbara would be blessed by donations in her name to Living Hope Community Church to bless those in need.
