Charles William Wahl was born September 4, 1934 in McLean County, Kentucky to the late William Ecklace and Lucile Hulsey Wahl, was married to the former Helen Joyce Bunch on June 27, 1952 and was affectionately known as “Peck” or “Granddaddy” by those who knew and loved him. Peck was a man of the earth, deeply rooted in the community he called home throughout his life.

Throughout his life, Peck was a hardworking and dedicated individual. He spent many years as a proud farmer and earlier retired as a truck operator from the former Charles Chips Factory in Calhoun. His work ethic was unparalleled, and his contributions to the community didn’t end at the workplace. Peck’s interests reflected his love for his community and the great outdoors. An avid fan of University of Kentucky Basketball, he bled blue and never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite team. His passion for operating his bulldozer earned him the playful nickname of the “Tree Terminator” by his family, who admired his skill and tenacity. Peck’s faith was a cornerstone of his life; he was a faithful member of Calhoun Baptist Church and was a past member and deacon of Beulah General Baptist Church.

Those who knew Peck will remember him as a man of integrity, kindness, and humor. His presence was a comfort, and his guidance was a beacon for his family and all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him. The stories of his love, laughter, and the wisdom he imparted will be recounted for generations. Peck’s life was well-lived, full of love and service. His was a journey of joy, commitment, and faith, a testament to a life dedicated to family, friends, and community.

In addition to his parents, Peck was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Joyce Wahl, who died October 21, 2011; by a son-in-law, Bruce Pace; and by his brother, Wilbur L. Wahl.
