
Merle Elizabeth Quinn, 92, of Hawesville, passed away into the arms of Jesus on December 21, 2024 at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City after a brief illness. She was born in Hancock County on October 29, 1932 to the late Elmont and Thelma Nugent House. Merle was a member of Hawesville Baptist Church and she attended Beechmont High School.
Merle was employed by General Electric in Tell City from 1950 to 1956. She was elected Hancock County Circuit Court Clerk and retired after 30 years. Merle loved the people of Hancock County and how special the people have been to her family and herself. At times in court when someone was having a rough day, she would leave the bench beside the judge and go sit with them and offer words of encouragement. She believed in the golden rule, always treat people the way you want to be treated.
Merle loved her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great-great granddaughter, Winter Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by 2 sons, Mark and Michael Quinn; grandson, Philip R. Quinn; siblings, Mary E. Rice, Delores Gibbs, Dean Nugent, Russell House, Dale House and Jerry House.
Merle is survived by her son, Monty (Noel) Quinn; grandson, Joseph (Nicole) Quinn; granddaughter, Jane Anne Quinn; great grandson, Gage (Jess) Quinn; great-great granddaughter, Winter Elizabeth Quinn; brother, Donald House along with several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at Hawesville Baptist Church with burial following in Serenity Hills. Merle’s family will be greeting friends on Saturday at the church from 9:30 am until service time.
