
Mary Lou Baldwin 89, of Livermore, Kentucky passed away Friday, November 29, 2024 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Mary Lou Buchanan was born June 26, 1935 in Livermore, Kentucky to the late William Harrison and Myrtle Ann Downs Buchanan and was married to Hilton C. ‘Hootie’ Baldwin on April 29, 1950. Mary Lou was a beacon of warmth and kindness, whose smile could light up any room.
Mary Lou retired as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Her diligent work and friendly demeanor made her a beloved figure along her route, and she took genuine pleasure in connecting with the community she served. Even after retirement, she remained an active and engaged member of her community, often participating in various local events and causes.
An avid crafter, Mary Lou had a passion for crocheting, knitting, and a variety of crafts. Her hands were rarely still, and the fruits of her labor became cherished gifts for family and friends. A voracious reader, she could often be found with a book in hand, lost in the pages of a captivating story. Mary Lou’s love for the ocean was profound. She relished her trips to the seaside, where she found joy in walking along the beach, watching dolphins play in the waves, and simply appreciating the vast beauty of the sea.
Above all, Mary Lou’s heart belonged to her family. She was a guiding light and pillar of strength, always there to offer support, wisdom, and a listening ear. Her home was a haven of comfort and love, and she made sure that everyone who entered felt welcomed and valued. The legacy she leaves behind is one of unconditional love, boundless generosity, and the importance of cherishing every moment spent with loved ones. Mary Lou’s spirit will continue to live on in the hearts and memories of those she touched, and her example of a life well-lived will remain a guiding force for generations to come.
In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Hilton ‘Hootie’ Baldwin, who died October 14, 2014 and by a grandson, Brett McPherson.
Mary Lou is survived by a son, Mike Baldwin (Regina) of Owensboro; three daughters, Pamela McPherson (Allen Hiland) of Owensboro, Cindi LaMure (Mark) of Corydon, Indiana, and Yvonne Gentry (Joseph) of Williston, South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Cassie Boring (David), Jennifer Moore (James), Michael Baldwin (Marcie), Kyle McPherson, Matt Baldwin (Jennifer), Elizabeth LaMure-Ray (Chris), Colin LaMure (Kendra), and Noah LaMure (Michalynn Miller); 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Buchanan of Columbus, Mississippi.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at Muster Funeral Homes, Livermore Chapel. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Livermore. Friends may visit with Mary Lou’s family from 11:30 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at Musters in Livermore.
