GREENVILLE, KY., Shirley Sue Webb Hancock, 89, of Greenville went to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 9, 2024 at Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital. She was born to Robert and Captola Webb on October 25, 1935. Shirley was baptized on April 3, 1945 at First Baptist Church in Greenville. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where she loved to minister until she was unable to serve anymore. She was active in many areas of the church as a Sunday School teacher and youth Training Union leader. She was a member of the Sanctuary Choir for over 30 years and she loved being a part of Circle of Friends for many years. One of her favorite ministries at First Baptist Church was to sponsor and accompany the First Baptist Church Touring Choir directed by Bro. Jack Duvall. She was a Kentucky Colonel. She retired from Greenville Insurance after a lifetime of service at the agency where she was a bonded insurance agent. She was also a Brownie Leader and Girl Scout Leader during the 1960’s-1970’s. She loved Greenville and all that it had to offer. She took great pride in knowing her city was maintained beautifully. She loved riding through the streets of Greenville and she knew where everyone lived. To know her was to love her. She greeted everyone with a smile. She loved God, her church and her family. She was committed to a life of prayer and service for others. She had a deep love for animals and had many “doggie & kitty children” during her lifetime. She had a passion for reading and was an avid supporter of her local library.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Turner Hancock, her parents Robert & Captola Webb, brothers Larry Webb, Bobby “Peto” Webb and his wife Bettye, a sister Patty Webb Drury and her husband Buddy, and a brother-in-law Jewel Grace.

 

She is survived by her beloved daughter Susan (Susie) Denise and her husband Tony Gipson of Greenville a sister Harlene Webb Grace of Greenville, a sister-in-law Donna Epley Webb of Benton and a brother-in-law Fred Hancock and his wife Reta of Union City, TN., several nieces, nephews and cousins whom she dearly loved.

 

Visitation will be at Greenville First Baptist Church Sanctuary on Monday, November 25, 2024 from 10am – 12noon with her service beginning at 12noon.

 

Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Greenville.

 

We request in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Muhlenberg County Humane Society.
