John Anthony Schmitt, 83, of Owensboro, passed away on November 21, 2024, under the care of Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. He was born on June 20, 1941, in Ireland, Indiana, to the late Anthony Schmitt and Laurina Kluemper Schmitt.
John retired from MPD where he worked as a Materials Manager for over 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion, St. Vincent de Paul, and Immaculate Parish. In his spare time, John enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family.
Along with his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Diann Schmitt, and his grandson, Seth Shelton.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Lisa (Steve) Shelton, Mark (Andrea) Schmitt, and Mike (Kim) Schmitt, his grandchildren, Sara (Clint) Novak, Kyle (Lauren) Shelton, Chelsea (Josh) Pruitt, Noah Schmitt, Lindzey (Tyson) Trogdon, John “Andrew” Schmitt, and Emma Schmitt, and nine great-grandchildren.
Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 25, 2024, at Immaculate Parish, with Fr. Tony Jones officiating. Burial to follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, in Fulda, Indiana. Friends and family are invited to visitation on Sunday, November 24, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will resume, at Immaculate Parish, on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of mass.
