Kevin ‘Grocery’ Smith 58, of Calhoun, Kentucky passed away Saturday, October 12, 2024 at University of Louisville Hospital. Rodney Kevin Smith was born March 4, 1966 in Owensboro, Kentucky to Marshall Rodney and Janie LaVon Dukes Smith and was better known as ‘Grocery’ to his friends at the mines.
Kevin retired from Grand Eagle Mining in Henderson and was a member of Brushy Fork Baptist Church in Panther. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and barbecuing for both his family and friends.
Kevin was preceded in death by his father, Marshall Smith, who died January 27, 2021.
Kevin is survived by a son, Blake Smith (Lindsey) of Owensboro; his longtime companion, Sherry Jones of Calhoun; Sherry’s daughters, Felicia Newcomb and Tearra Jones both of Calhoun; Sherry’s grandchildren, Ollie Newcomb, Melody Newcomb, and Weston Williams; his mother, Janie Smith of Panther; and two brothers, Scott Smith (Kelley) and Barry Smith (Brooke) both of Panther.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in the Calhoun Cemetery in McLean County. Friends may visit with Kevin’s family from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Musters in Calhoun.
