Judith “Judy” Nell Boswell, 77, tossed her wheelchair to the side and sprinted into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday July 16, 2024.

Judy was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on March 7, 1947 to the late Ralph and Edna Boswell. She was their first-born blessing which provided her with an incredible amount of strength and perseverance (some might call it stubbornness). Judy would grow to need this tenacity after contracting Polio at the age of 5. She was truly a miracle child and, after a long stent in the Iron Lung, survived even when her team of doctors told her mother there was no way. Although the disease stole her ability to freely move her arms and legs, it never could quite steal her joy or her will to live life to the fullest.

Judy went on to graduate from Daviess County High School in the class of 1965. In order to navigate the school in a pre-accessible era, Judy often caught a ride up and down the stairs with local NASCAR legend, Darrell Waltrip. This was a story she loved recounting! Soon after graduating, she completed her certification at the International Correspondence School. She utilized her newly acquired skills to help keep the accounting (and men) of Boswell Farms in line until November of 2022. Judy was also able to give her time and talents to Bethlehem Methodist by serving as their treasurer for over three decades.

In addition to her skills as a math whiz, Judy had several other gifts. She was a master crocheter and lovingly created blankets and shawls for the people around her. She was an award winning back tickler. She was a sous chef to her mother’s famous home cookin’. And she was the very proudest of aunts. Her greatest accomplishment was helping with the raising of her nieces and nephews and several neighborhood children. She loved and cherished each of them for their own special talents.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her trusted brother-in-law (Joey Fischer), a very special nephew (Noah Boswell), and the sweetest great niece (Emelia Claire Aud). We can only imagine, and grin through our tears, at the joyful reunion that must have taken place.

She is survived by her three siblings, Joel and wife Joyce Boswell, Gerald and wife Linda Boswell, and Sondra Fischer; nine nieces and nephews, Aaron Boswell (Nicole), Chad Boswell (Amy), Ryan Boswell (Tiffany), Tiffany Rust (Jerrod), Joy Kaye Abel (Cory), Ross Boswell (Kelly), Sara Aud (Kyle), Joseph Fischer, Adam Fischer (Kaitlyn); and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Friday, July 19, 2024 at Bethlehem Methodist Church, with visitation beginning at 9 am at the church. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Additional visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 pm until 7 pm at Gibson and Son Funeral Home, Lewisport Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to the Methodist Children’s Home where Judy was a faithful supporter.
